Dublin Zoo

Dublin Zoo was opened in 1831 with 42 mammals and 72 different bird species donated by the successful London Zoo in 1840. The decision was made to open the zoo to the public for 1 penny per person on Sundays which helped fund the growth of the zoo. Today the zoo is Ireland’s largest family attraction, spans over 28 hectares and attracts over 1 million visitors per year.
